Kochi: June 19
Syro Malabar Church said in a statement on June 19, 2023, that discussions in the media, terming the compulsion for morality and discipline at educational institutions as a grave offence will not help train the young generation.
The Church said in the statement that the Synod of the Church has assessed that the incidents that happened at Kanjirapally Amal Jyothi Engineering College in Kerala were not giving an ideal message to the public.
The college has been in the news for various reasons including student suicides and protests by students against the management.
The statement said that certain groups with vested interests were using suicides, which is sad for everyone, for communal benefits and this was being perceived with anxiousness by the Christian community.
The statement said that certain elements were trying to destroy the future of the young generation by destabilizing Christian educational institutions and thereby promoting anarchy and communalism. “Targeting this one minority alone by considering the patience of Christians as weakness, was inhumane and a challenge to the constitution,” the statement said.
