Reset the Day with Confidence

“Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul” (Psa 143:8).

By Paulson Pulikottil

Our disposition as we roll out of bed determines how the day goes. Many of us carry the worries, anxieties, and concerns we brought to bed the previous night, even if we slept well. Most of the time, we get up ready to deal with the long-term concerns we have been carrying around.

Though every morning is a continuation of our life on earth, at least for that day or part of it, each day is God’s gift to restart our life in a new direction. Restarting our laptops or mobile devices clears most unnecessary files from the cache and frees up RAM, so it must be done each calendar day. It is crucial to reset our lives daily for a fresh start in newer directions with fresh vigour.

All these apply to all, whether they have Christ in their life or not. However, Christ-followers have two unique privileges, which the psalmist highlights. First, we wake up assured that the new day will be a grand display of the Lord’s undying love for us. Since we trust the Lord, we are confident that his “steadfast love” will follow us. Even in unfavourable circumstances that come our way, we trust that he will guide us through the “valley of the shadow of death” (Psa 23:4). We roll out of our beds in the morning and rub our eyes to have a fresher vision of his unfailing love that will follow us.

The second unique privilege is that the Lord will tell us how to proceed; when we are confused and do not know what to do or say, the Lord will guide us. The promise stands: “And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left” (Isa 30:21).

So, let us plant our feet on the bedroom floor daily, reminded of the Lord’s steadfast love and promise to guide us. Let us reset our day with faith.
