The Wonder that I am

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well” (Psa 139:13—14).

By Paulson Pulikottil (www.paulsonp.net)

We need only turn to ourselves for reasons to praise God, our creator. We stand in awe of the Creator when we ponder the intricate and awe-inspiring human anatomy and how our organs work in coordination to make a healthy life possible.

For example, when patients experience chest discomfort, doctors often prescribe tests to identify the cause. These tests help determine which internal organ is affected. Since many vital organs are protected within the rib cage, we can trust that diagnostic tests—guided by God's design—are necessary to pinpoint the exact issue. The problem could be related to the heart, liver, or lungs.

A physician who ignores the complexity of the human body will put his patients at risk. A few years ago, my friend died, though his cardiologist assured him that his heart was fit. But the cardiologist was so presumptuous as to ignore the patient’s infected gallbladder; my friend died as the gallbladder burst and polluted his bloodstream.

Those who believe that, although human agency is involved, ultimately God is the one who designed and brought us into this world, worship their Creator. The fact that God, my designer, knows me perfectly well is why we should pray even when in the care of the best physician in the world.

Let us take a moment to marvel at the wondrous design of our bodies—God’s masterpiece—and recognise his hand in every intricate detail of our health. Whether facing illness or enjoying wellness, let us lift our hearts in worship and trust, knowing that our Creator knows us intimately and cares deeply for our healing.

Pray earnestly for guidance, wisdom, and peace—for yourself, your loved ones, and those who care for you. Embrace the powerful foundation of faith in God’s design as you walk the journey of health, trusting him who is the ultimate healer and sustainer of life.
