Perfect Love
"There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love" (1 John 4:18).
By Paulson Pulikottil
What does this mean for us as Christians? How can we experience this perfect love that drives away all fear?
First, God is the source of perfect love who loves us unconditionally, sacrificially, and faithfully. He demonstrated his love for us by sending his Son, Jesus, to die for our sins and to give us eternal life. He also gives us his Holy Spirit to fill us with love and guide us into all truth. God's love for us is not based on our performance, achievements, or merits. It is based on his grace, mercy, and character.
Second, we need to receive God's love by faith. We must believe that he loves us and has forgiven us of all our sins. It is important to trust him with all our hearts and not lean on our understanding. We must surrender our lives to him and let him be the Lord of every area of our lives.
Third, we must reflect God's love by loving others as Jesus did. He said: "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another" (John 13:34). Love others with the same kind of love that God has shown us: unconditional, sacrificial, and faithful. Similarly, we must forgive others as God has forgiven us, serve others as God has served us, and share the gospel with others as God has shared it.
When we understand, receive, and reflect God's love, we will experience the perfect love that casts out fear. We will not fear God's judgment because we know he has already justified us by faith in Christ. We will not fear people's opinions because we know God's approval is more important than human approval. We will not fear the future because we know God is in control and has good plans for us.
Make it your mission today to step into the fullness of God’s perfect love. Let go of fear by embracing the truth that you are fully known, fully forgiven, and fully loved by your Heavenly Father. Receive His love by trusting in the finished work of Jesus and surrendering every area of your life to Him. And don’t stop there—let His love flow through you to others. Love boldly, forgive freely, serve humbly, and share the good news of the gospel with compassion and courage.
You were made to experience a love that casts out fear. Don’t delay—open your heart, believe His promises, and reflect His love to the world. Start today, and watch God transform your fears into faith through His perfect love.
