Spiritual Abundance

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God" (Col 3:16).

By Paulson Pulikottil

“You cannot distribute poverty, only wealth,” finance advisors say. The goal of wealth creation is to have more than our daily needs and accumulate assets. Poor people often struggle to help others financially. This principle also applies to biblical spirituality—we need to be spiritually rich to bless others.

Spiritually rich people have a surplus that overflows to others. However, spiritually poor people may become a liability to the community. For instance, a spiritually rich person with robust faith finds comfort in God in adversity, while a spiritually poor person finds navigating even a lesser problem challenging.

When God's Word dwells in us richly, we can teach, comfort, and bless others by pointing them to the Lord. The abundance of the Word of God overflows as instructions and songs. A Bible teacher needs to know more than others to teach effectively. Many Christian songs have their origin in the wealthy Christian experience of the Lord; some in adversities, some in prosperity.

For the Word of God to dwell richly in us, we need to read, meditate on, and study Scripture daily. The psalmist observes that the blessed person works overtime to meditate on the Word of God. "... but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law, he meditates day and night" (Psa 1:2). The Lord told Joshua as he was taking up the leadership of the Israelites: "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success" (Josh 1:8).

An eager effort to gather nuggets from the Word of God by soaking ourselves in it daily is the secret to being rich toward God and blessing others.

Are you spiritually rich—or just getting by? True wealth in God’s kingdom begins with a heart overflowing with His Word. Don’t settle for spiritual poverty. Dive into Scripture daily, meditate on it deeply, and let it transform you. When God’s Word dwells richly in you, you’ll have more than enough to bless others with wisdom, comfort, and truth.
