Three Things to Remember in the Pastor Appreciation Month

As many churches celebrate October as Pastor Appreciation Month, this article reminds us of three things we must know about the ministry of pastors.

1. Recognise their sacrificial leadership.
The pastors are the ones who lead and teach the congregation what is right and wrong, holiness and righteousness, wickedness, ungodliness, and sinfulness, on the Lord’s behalf. The church members must know and respect the efforts the pastors put into their hard work who toil spiritually to lead the congregation in the path of righteousness.
2. Realise that being on a higher pedestal, they are lonely.
Many pastors live in loneliness as they bear the heavy load of spiritual leadership. They cannot publicly share their heavy burdens with the congregation or family members. It could be possible that many pastors go to sleep crestfallen and unspeakable pain in their hearts, enduring all the burdens of the church and their families. However, in times of your pastor’s tragic and sad situation, your notion of constant love, tender care and moral support can effectively encourage your pastor. Consequently, your encouragement could be a vital tool and help to motivate your pastor to gain the zeal to serve the church for the glory of God.
3. Make sure that your pastor has adequate support.
The Scripture says, “Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially those who labour in the word and doctrine” (1 Tim 5:17). The pastors also have their families to feed, and the children studying in schools and colleges. In the local scenario, most pastors do not have other government or private jobs apart from serving as a pastor in the local church. As a result, the pastor families suffer financially as the church often neglects to pay their pastors faithfully, willingly, and appropriately.
Pastoral ministry is not easy. It needs spiritual strength, faith, confidence, and courage to uplift the congregation. Support your pastors and their families in every way during Pastor Appreciation Month and throughout the year.
