MAIDUGURI, Nigeria — Suspected Islamic terrorists launched an attack on three predominantly Christian villages in Adamawa State in northeast Nigeria on Thursday, October 8, 2026. The raid comes amidst a broader pattern of targeted violence against Christian communities across several regions of the country.
The attack in Adamawa reflects an escalating security crisis in northern and central Nigeria. In Kaduna State, armed Fulani gunmen killed and kidnapped local Christians. Farther south, six Christians were slain over a single weekend in central Nigeria. Adding to the community's vulnerability, the Nigerian military detained a Christian journalist and human rights advocate who was actively reporting on civil rights and security issues.
Despite persistent threats, faith organisations are continuing their work in some of the region's most volatile areas. In Maiduguri, known as the birthplace of the terrorist group Boko Haram, pastors of underground churches recently gathered for a training conference.
During the outreach organised by Brad Brandon, founder of the ministry Across Nigeria, workers engaged directly with local combatants. In a dramatic shift amidst the ongoing conflict, former Boko Haram terrorists and Fulani militants heard the Gospel, renounced violence, converted to Christianity, and became active evangelists sharing their new faith across northern Nigeria.
