How God Restores Joy in Seasons of Sorrow (Psalm 126)
“Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy! He who goes out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him” (Psalm 126:5—6).

The psalmist sings from a heart full of memory, remembering just how faithful God has been. When Jerusalem felt broken and without hope, the Lord reached down in tender mercy and brought them back to life. The joy was so overwhelming, so wonderfully surprising, that they could hardly believe it: “When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy” (Psalm 126:1–2). It felt almost too good to be true—like waking up from a long, dark night into a light that made them pinch themselves and laugh out loud with pure delight.
Can the Lord do that again for you?
The psalmist reminds us that even our hardest seasons are never wasted. Just like a thoughtful farmer who knows that planting takes patience and faith, he doesn't let the hard work of the sowing season pass him by. He trusts that after months of quiet waiting in the soil, a beautiful harvest is on the horizon—and that he will come home with arms full of abundance, shouting for joy once more.
