Deliverance from Social Pollution
“Deliver me, O LORD, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue” (Psa 120:2).

Just as plants and animals require a clean environment for healthy growth, a clean social setting is essential for humans to thrive. But such a setting is hard to find.
The psalmist lived in a situation where social pollution was extremely high. He complains that the people around him are deceitful, lying to each other, cheating, and violent with their words. He describes their words as dangerous: “A warrior’s sharp arrows, with glowing coals of the broom tree!” (Psalm 120:4). He is a lover of peace, unfortunately located among people who scorn those values: “I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war!” (Psalm 120:7).
The contemporary situation is not different; the shapes and shades of deceit, lies, and deceptions may have changed slightly, but the effect is the same. Our politicians deceive us with lies, the industry misleads us with exaggerated claims, and people often lie to each other. Godly people grope, blinded by the thick fog of untruth and deception.
Just as we pray for our daily needs, good health, healing, and daily bread, it is important to pray to God for protection from the people who pollute society with their evil ways. Only in a clean society can we thrive and grow. Pray for the people you interact with today that they will be truthful and resolve to speak the truth and nothing but the truth.
