Luke 1:45: Blessed is She Who Believed – Mary’s Faith in Waiting for God’s Impossible Promises

And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfilment of what was spoken to her from the Lord” (Luke 1:45)

By Paulson Pulikottil

Faith is often tested in waiting. Mary, a young woman with little status in her society, received a message that seemed impossible—she would bear the Son of God. Her response was not one of doubt but of belief. Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, recognised this faith and declared herself blessed. Why? Because Mary trusted that God would do what he said. Belief is more than acknowledging truth; it is resting in it. Many promises in Scripture require patience—healing, provision, and purpose. Often, doubt creeps in when circumstances contradict what God has spoken. Yet, Luke 1:45 reminds us that blessing follows belief. When we trust God’s Word, even when the outcome is unseen, we walk in the blessing of faith. Mary had no tangible proof at the time, but she trusted God's faithfulness. God’s promises are sure, but their fulfilment often unfolds differently than we expect. Abraham and Sarah waited years for their promised son. Joseph endured hardship before rising to leadership. Mary had to wait to see Jesus grow, fulfil his ministry, and redeem the world. Trusting God means believing in His word despite delays, detours, or difficulties. Like Mary, we are called to believe. What has God spoken to your heart? Is there a promise you are holding onto? The key to receiving God’s blessings is faith—not in our ability to make things happen, but in his faithfulness. Belief positions us to see his power at work in our lives.
