Creation Calls Us to Worship God

“For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse” (Rom 1:20).

By Paulson Pulikottil

In an art gallery’s hushed glow, one painting seized my soul—its mesmerising strokes rooting me to the spot like an unbreakable spell. Transfixed, I drank in its splendour, lost in silent reverence. Then a soft tap on my shoulder shattered the trance. A stranger had drawn near, eager to unveil its secrets: the brushstrokes’ hidden dance, the fire of inspiration behind every hue.

“Who crafted this masterpiece?” I whispered. With quiet pride, he pointed to himself.

The canvas’s radiant beauty ignited a hunger for its maker—for every creation whispers irresistibly of the Creator who poured His genius into its depths.

In this section of his letter, Paul passionately declares that no one inhabiting God’s creation can claim ignorance of him. The Jews believed that true knowledge of God was confined to the Torah, through which he revealed himself to them. Yet, Paul emphasises that even non-Jews, who may lack scripture, are without excuse, for God’s presence and revelation extend through all that He has made.

The creation around us serves as a vivid testament to God’s invisible qualities, his mighty power, and his compassionate nature. The majestic, benevolent God has fashioned lush meadows where animals graze peacefully and clear brooks for their refreshment. Psalm 104 exuberantly extols the creator, celebrating His generous provision and tender care.

The creator, God, continuously sustains all that he has made. The stars glide peacefully across the sky, never colliding, while the Sun tirelessly bathes the world in warmth and light. Moonlit nights enchant with their shimmering beauty. The renowned Dutch artist Van Gogh dedicated his life to capturing the wonder of God’s creation.

The truth of the creator God is an unavoidable truth that stirs our souls and brings us to our knees, shouting in awe, “How Great Thou Art.” Nothing prepares us better for worship than gazing out at a breathtaking landscape; if that's not possible, hang a landscape painting by your bed to wake up in praise of His divine essence. We cannot afford to overlook this master artist, the one who has generously granted us the privilege of living within his magnificent gallery at no cost.
