Grateful, worshipful, and proclaiming
“Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples!” (Psa 105:1).
By Paulson Pulikottil
This psalmist concentrates on three aspects of Christian life—gratitude, worship, and declaring God's word to those unfamiliar with him.
Followers of Christ must always be grateful for what God has done in their lives, especially for the privilege of being his children. His saving grace gives us a reason to find purpose and meaning in our lives. John the apostle expressed this wonder: “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him" (1 John 3:1).
Not only for our salvation, but we must also thank the Lord for his daily provision for our lives and protection. A grateful heart must acknowledge the Lord in everyday events. All that we have, and all that we are, is his gracious provision.
Worship is the second act of Christian life. When we call upon the Lord, we acknowledge that our life depends on him and bow in humble adoration before his majesty. The Bible encourages us to recognise the Lord in all our ways (Prov 3:6). The humble acknowledgement of the Lord’s part in our lives is the foundation of worship.
Thirdly, grateful, worshipping Christians share their experience of the Lord with those who have not experienced it. Just as it is difficult to keep exciting news hidden from others, the joy in the Lord is something we cannot conceal. Apostle Peter summarises the Christian experience: “Honour Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defence to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect” (1 Peter 3:15).
We may sum up the Christian life as grateful, worshipful, and proclaiming.
Embrace a life of gratitude by recognising God’s daily blessings. Worship him with humility and reverence, and courageously share the hope and joy found in Christ with others. Let your faith be alive—grateful, worshipful, and boldly proclaiming the love of God to those around you.
