Being God-centred than Self-centred
“And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him” (Heb 11:6).
By Paulson Pulikottil
This statement stands out in the catalogues of heroes of faith (Heb 11:1—40) as it fine-tunes godly faith.
First, to have faith, we need to believe in God's existence. How can people believe in something that they deny exists? The sad part of human existence is that, although the Creator God has displayed his glory in what he has created, his wisdom is evident in history and human conscience; yet, some people still deny Him (Rom 1:18—23).
Second, we need to actively seek God because passive faith leads nowhere. When we believe that God exists, we must use that understanding to trust him. Seeking is more than inquiring but approaching him for help. In times of need, instead of relying on our own strength and wisdom, we should turn to God for help. Our thoughts should be God-centred rather than self-centred.
Third, we should also believe that God never disappoints those who approach him for his help. God is able and more than willing to help us in times of need. He never disappoints those “who seek him.”
Acknowledging the Creator God, who is wiser and more powerful than we, and believing that he never disappoints those who approach him for help gives meaning and direction to human existence.
Take a moment today to pause, reflect, and draw near to God. Surrender your burdens, renew your trust in his promises, and step forward in faith — knowing that he goes before you, sustains you, and holds your future securely in his hands.
