The Eternal God in Our Fleeting Days

“Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God” (Psa 90:2).

By Paulson Pulikottil

God created time, but he is not controlled by it. God has no beginning and no end, while everything he created has a beginning and an end. Since we are finite, we rush to accomplish things during our lifetime and worry about things that we cannot do or possess.

God’s eternity is related to other aspects of his nature, particularly his knowledge and power. He knows everything, and he can achieve anything. He has destined everything for their own time, place, and destiny. Nothing would happen without his knowledge, and no world event would catch God by surprise. He knows how long each would stay and when they would end.

He also has the power to make things happen. Nothing is beyond his control. The psalmist suggests that if God could shape the earth’s crust into mountains and valleys and make water flow through them towards the sea, he could control human life and the situations in which they live.

The eternity of God demands that human beings trust in Him. They are puny and limited. Faith that confesses human limitation and God’s majesty brings the faithful to their knees to seek to sustain power from his unlimited resources. So, each day, we cry for his power to drive us through the day. “Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days” (Psa 90:14).

As you move through the demands of today, pause and remember that you serve a God untouched by time yet deeply involved in your moments. Surrender your plans, anxieties, and limitations to his eternal wisdom. Begin each day praying, “Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love.” Trust His timing, rest in His sovereignty, and draw strength from his endless grace.
