Immovable Love and Peace of the Father God
“For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,’ says the LORD, who has compassion on you” (Isa 54:10).
By Paulson Pulikottil
The Lord addresses his children who have lost all hope in him. They were exiled and treated as second-class citizens for many years. He encourages them to hold on and wait for their time of deliverance.
The mountains and hills may not move from their place, no matter how far human imagination stretches. Even if such a thing happens, the Lord’s love and peace remain unmoved. We can bet on God’s promises because they never fail.
God promises two things, though they signify similar concepts. The first is the “steadfast love”, and the second is the “covenant of peace.” They denote God’s unchanging love for his people and his promise of peace.
God’s relationship with his people is rooted in the promise of his love and faithfulness. “I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore, I have continued my faithfulness to you” (Jer 31:3). This will never change.
However, they were disciplined as their country was defeated, and many of them were deported to the land of their conquerors. Adversities led people to believe they had been forsaken by the Lord, who had promised them a good life (Isa 40:27).
The Lord assures us that His love for us and his promised peace never cease or can be removed. Undoubtedly, even unfavourable circumstances are a sign of his love and care. A loving father would discipline his children so they do not get into a severe mess; loving God disciplines them, too, but stays close to them.
Father God remains brimming with love and peace, even amid adversities.
In times of uncertainty and adversity, let us hold fast to the unshakable promises of God. Though circumstances may suggest otherwise, his steadfast love and covenant of peace remain immovable. Please take a moment today to reaffirm your trust in his enduring faithfulness. Return to his Word, lean into His promises, and find solace in knowing that even in discipline, his love surrounds you. Share this hope with those who feel abandoned, reminding them that God’s heart is forever turned toward his people, and his peace is promised to those who wait upon him.
