The Cure for Anxious Hearts
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God” (Phil 4:6)
By Paulson Pulikottil
Are you feeling anxious? You are not alone. Everyone feels uneasy about the unknown sometimes. Anxiety is always about the future. Nobody worries about what happened yesterday, though we may feel shame, defeat, or something similar about what we could not or could have done in the past.
Uncertainties about what the future holds are the reason for anxiety. This fear drains the energy to act in the future since we have already expended much mental energy to work when the time comes. But how do we step into the unknown without fear or anxiety?
The Bible has words of encouragement for those who are anxious, as in the case of all problems in life. We must entrust to God the unknown we must step into because he has already scripted the future. He is the grandmaster of history who moves the pieces on his board according to his will.
However, we have the right to say what we would like to happen, though it should not be to insist on our ways but to express our desires fully, submitting to the supreme will of God. So, we are encouraged to make our requests known to God. We trust that whatever happens, we are secure because it is the will of God, and God is in what would happen.
When we are confident that God is already present in the future we are about to enter, anxiety loses its hold. It is like a child handing a heavy school bag to their father, then moving ahead while holding his strong, reassuring hand tightly.
