Returning to the Lord: Our True Source of Strength

This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it. (Isa 30:15, NLT*)

By Paulson Pulikottil

In a time of political crisis and fear of invasion, the Prophet Isaiah delivered a word of comfort from God to a trembling nation. Assyria loomed large, and Judah's leaders scrambled for foreign alliances to secure their safety. But God’s message through Isaiah was simple and powerful: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. ”

This divine call is not confined to ancient history. It speaks to us today.

Every morning, we wake to a world filled with challenges—some lingering from yesterday, others sudden and unforeseen. Life can feel overwhelming. But amid the noise and uncertainty, God offers a quiet place of strength—an invitation to return to him, to rest in his presence, and to receive what our own efforts cannot provide.

Too often, we rush ahead with our plans, trying to fix things in our wisdom. Yet the call remains: Return. Rest. Trust. As Jesus gently calls, “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).

This trust is not passive—it is active and childlike. We are called to hold fast to Christ like a child clutching their parent’s hand in unfamiliar territory. We do not need to have all the answers. We need to trust the One who leads us.

Our strength does not come from confidence in ourselves but in him. And in that, we find the boldness to face each day—rested, grounded, and secure in the unfailing presence of the Lord.

Today, pause and ask yourself—Am I leaning on my understanding, or am I resting on God's promises?

Take a few quiet moments to return to the Lord in prayer. Surrender your worries, your plans, your fears. Ask Him to help you trust like a child—fully, and without reservation.

Make space for stillness. Rediscover your strength in Him. Because in the presence of the Lord, fear loses its grip, and rest becomes your reality.
